In this clip the writers are making a mockery of how society and the government handles the global warming issues of today's world. The reactions of the townspeople is a representation of what may occur if this was to happen.
1.) What's the writers of this piece suggesting about Global Warming and the towns peoples reaction?
2.) What is the noticeable environmental contradiction to global warming?
3.) What do you think the mans performance at the end represents in respects to peoples current view on global warming?

Through the clip south park is playing on the idea that no one will really know when or how to prepare for global warming or any other end the world type event, let alone calculate when it may or may not arrive. The man's "death" at the end is also a play on this because its showing that the people as well will have no idea what to expect.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this clip, it is proved how people will mostly likely not be prepared for global warming. The way that they all became crazed and hectic shows how they also have no idea of when global warming will come and if it does, then they will have no idea of what to do. I believe that the man at the end represents how society will struggle with the concept of global warming occurring and therefore cause that much destruction when it finally does, leaving death just as the man towards the end experienced.
ReplyDeleteIS it possible that this is a mockery of the fact that we already are aware of the global warming threat yet we do nothing about it? Also no one has mentioned the environmental contradiction if global warming was really occurring.
ReplyDeleteThis clip definitely satirizes the issue of global warming and all the hype created by the government even though little evidence exists supporting the idea. Liberals are so concerned with this idea, though we don't know what the lasting affects will be or when. I think the writers make fun of the ignorant people who waste their time with something that we have little control over.
ReplyDeleteI like the way this clip satarizes the issue of global warming. it points out how people are extremely afraid of global warming, but also how global warming is not going to really effect our generation if it does exist. At the end of the clip, a man falls down and presumably becomes a victim of global warming, but nothing ever happens to him. This suggests that the clip is trying to point attention toward the validity of global warming claims, and how they may not necessarily be true.
ReplyDeleteThe clip plays on the fact that if global warming really does exist no one is making a course of action so we can be prepared for it, and when or if global warming takes its full scale it will cause an epic pandemic in society and cause havoc throughout. The clip also shows global warming like a big monster that is almost chasing the people but in reality the effects of global warming will not be a drastic change over a couple of days but over time and it will affect the environment and weather it will not just decide to act up one day and kill everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe clip exaggeratedly describes people’s fear towards global warming. It is very interesting that the expert said global warming will happen two days before the day after tomorrow and they suddenly remember it is today. The music of the clip is very tensional and this makes people's fear seem more serious. However, just by looking at the actual environment, it doesn't change that much. In the final scene, the man think he will die but nothing actually happens and he opens his eyes to see what finally happens. The clip uses exaggerative and humorous way to cause people's attention on global warming.
ReplyDeleteI actually watched this episode of South Park just the other day. This specific clip is making fun of how some people panic over something that has no true back up evidence, such as global warming. The rest of the episode is the same way. It seems sometimes that people almost want something to worry about, and will listen to anything that is on the news, instead of taking it with a grain of salt.
ReplyDeleteThough South Park always could not make sense to me, I could find that the clip wants to satirize about the environment problems especially in global warming problems. And I think the clip more wants to stress about the conflictive behaviors of human beings between the time they feel it would be safe to do whatever to the environment and the time they realize it is the doomsday through people scream and run everywhere after they have heard the news. And in the end of the clip, there has a man seems to discover something in the sky and looks that he thinks he is gonna die. Nonetheless, it seems happens nothing on him. This is another segment that emphasizes people's action. By this satire expression, I think the clip tries to get people's attention on environment protection.
ReplyDeleteAll the scene in this clip shows a kind of fear, panic and nervous mood after hearing the news that Global Warming will come today! It imply that our government didn't illustrate some safety tips about how to save ourselves when Global Warming coming. All the information about it have been covered by the government. Everybody have a right to know the situation about the climate of the world.
ReplyDeleteI think global warming in this clip is portrayed as more of an object/monster than an issue/problem. In this clip, people are running and hiding away from it. It's as if global warming is out to bite people. I find it similar to a scene from Godzilla.
ReplyDeleteI find the environmental scene to be contradicting because their is still snow on the top of the mountain.
This clip is very interesting. The reaction of the crowd is mocking the fact that the effects of global warming will not be felt over night. Also, I feel like the clip is criticizing the integrity of the information that supports global warming as well.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting how some of you guys talked about the government's role in this clip. In reality, how do you all think the government should handle global warming? Do you think the government's doing well so far in informing the people of the United States?
ReplyDeleteThe clip imagines what would happen if there is a global warning one day without any annoucement or preparation in advance. From the clip, we can find all the negative feelings and behaviors among people. They are scared, crying, screaming and runing. The order of the world is broken instantaneously before the "monster" or "disaster" really appears. The clip is concerned about that what really dangers people is not the those "terrible" affairs, but people's negative feelings and the uncontrolled situation which panic brings at the same time. It also critizes the government has the responsibility to make a good preparation for the emergency and annouce it to the public in advance.
ReplyDeleteThrough the people's over reactions to the news of global warming happening today, I think it is showing that there is nothing we can do about global warming once it is that close. the environmental contradiction to global warming in the clip is that there is still snow on the ground and I believe that the man's performance at the end shows that no one really knows what to expect or how to act when it comes to global warming.
ReplyDeletemost of the content of this clip is about the activities and reactions of people, like people panic and run everywhere in a great chaos, amount the general flow of a majorly people's similar movement, there are still some characterized reactions carried out by individuals i want to talk about, in the first scene of the conference room, while other people are running, there is a man who is jumping and kicking anything in sight, he makes this kind of reaction in order to show his rebellion to the globle warming, in the second scene, i can see that most people are running empty handed, but there are still some people who are running with their dogs and TVs, which makes it funny because it is very hard for us to understand in that kind of serious situation, still some people are taking trivial stuff important in their lives.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that really stood out to me, was how the scientists described when global warming was coming in such a deceptive manner. I think this could be playing off how there is such extreme miscommunication between the researches and the public. That is why today we are so unsure of the real truth of global warming.
ReplyDeleteI think the majority of this clip is no doubt making a mockery of the film The "Day After Tomorrow" In the opening of the clip a scientist states "The storm will arrive two days before the day after tomorrow". Which would be today, obviously making a mockery of the films title and plot.
ReplyDeleteThen the scenes were the cameras were chasing a huge crowd of people. This shot was in the film and it looked ridiculous, as if a monster was chasing you. South Park cracked on this by having the camera catch the guy and nothing happen. That was a great piece of satire, timely and it made me laugh out loud a few times.
South Park’s inhabitants hear that global warming will “strike” two days before the day after tomorrow and are thrown into a panicked frenzy. This is ironic as Global Warming is proposed to be a gradual process rather than something that just happens instantly. The townsfolk gather their supplies and actually attempt to flee, to run from Global Warming, as if it is something that is coming after them. The man’s performance at the end seems to poke fun at how easily people believe what is in the media and questions how Global Warming is presented to the public.
ReplyDeleteThis clip is very timely. All you ever hear about is global warming and how its 60 degrees in the middle of February. Its funny how everyone is so scared and terrified that global warming is arriving but yet as long as scientist have been telling us about it we havent really done anything to stop it or make it slow down. Going green was entertained for a while but like everything else people lost interest and went back to their old habits.
